  • Strengthening the reputation of secondary schools as learning centers that seek to prepare students for Yale.
  • Encouraging students who may have not previously considered themselves likely candidates for Yale or similar universities to widen their horizons and lift their hopes.

This year, the Yale Club of Nevada will present its book awards on March 15, 2015 at the Lied Library on the UNLV campus, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.   The event is free and open to the public.  Top students from high schools throughout the Las Vegas Valley will be recognized. At last year’s event, thirteen students from five high schools were awarded the Outstanding Scholar Award and three students received the coveted Yale Book Award. The Book Awards celebrate the best and brightest of Clark County’s students.  Each award recipient will receive free college counseling through the Yale Club of Nevada. “Historically every year across the US, the Yale Book Award is given to acknowledge students’ academic achievements but it wasn’t done in Las Vegas, so the Yale Club of NV brought it here because our students deserved them,” said, Patricia Iannuzzi, Dean of UNLV Libraries and President of the Yale Club of NV, describing the genesis of the local awards in 2014.“The Yale Book Award is a signal to Yale Admissions that the recipient is one of the best and brightest in the city. We have brilliant students who work hard to achieve so much in Clark County, we want to make sure that Yale knows about them early in the admission process,” said Cynthia Mun, ASC Director who oversees undergraduate recruitment for Yale in Nevada.
